Now Mayan Palace, has by far the BEST Mexican food in Fairbanks. Having spent most of my life in Texas, the biggest thing I miss is the food. It's better than most Mexican food I've had in the upper 48. The server I had was singing along to the music playing overhead and I asked who the singer playing at the moment was. I asked because it was one my mother liked but I couldn't remember his name. She informed me it was, and it immediately clicked. ( It was José María Napoleón ) Now I admit I'm a bit impatient for food, what can I say? This place isn't fast food. So it felt slightly long to wait for my food but the entire experience was worth it. I wouldn't say it was longer than any other restaurant like The Banks Alehouse or Fenders.

Chimichanga was pretty yummy, but the tortilla part needed to be a little bit more fried to become more crispy. Other than that, the flavor was yummy.

Of allllllllll the restaurants in Fairbanks that I have visited over the last 26 years, most of which have A) sub-par food B) horrible service or C) (most common) Both, Taco Azteca has ALWAYS, even over yeaaars, been consistent. That is saying something. I know I'll spend $20, get fantastic tacos and enchiladas and tamales, and have great service. This has always been my favorite place for not just Mexican food, but for going out to eat in general, as this town is just plagued by mediocrity and an attitude of "where else are you going to eat?" Taco Azteca has NEVER disappointed me. The portions are always generous, the food is always piping hot, the food is always good, the wait staff is always welcoming and attentive, and I have never left upset about spending my money there. That's a lot of "always," and that's what I love about this place. It's just ALWAYS good. I have counted on and enjoyed Taco Azteca for years, and when I'm in town, I make it a point to come back and enjoy the food. The restaurant is split into two sides, one side is for more leisurely sit down and be waited on, the other side is walk-up, order, a person brings out the food, you refill your own beverages, get your own condiments and silverware, and leave. The food is from the same kitchen. The sit down and be waited on side you're provided chips and salsa. Today I had the two tamale and one crisp taco. I usually get the two enchilada one crisp taco. Well, you can't go wrong with any of it. The tamales were fantastic, and the taco was great as usual. The Azteca Chicken Taco is one of my favorites as well. I just love this place. Its one of the few restaurants in Fairbanks that appreciates it customers, has consistent food and service, and is actively trying to always be better for the customer. I highly recommend and will definitely come back!
